End-Point Assessment (EPA) is the final stage in an apprenticeship programme, designed to evaluate the knowledge, skills, and behaviours an apprentice has developed against the criteria outlined in their apprenticeship standard. It is a formal and independent assessment conducted by an authorised End-Point Assessment Organization (EPAO) to ensure consistency, fairness, and validity.
The EPA can contain a range of different assessment methods. The goal of the EPA is to confirm that the apprentice is competent and job-ready, meeting the industry-specific standards required for their role. This process ensures that apprentices leave the programme with the qualifications and capabilities valued by employers. It is also the final stage an apprentice will need to complete to receive their apprenticeship completion certificate.
